The Journey

This is the book I am currently querying, cue the scared-face emoji!!!
Queen Fermel is a cursed unicorn forced to live as a human after the dragons invade her world. Said to be the undoing of her unicorns, Fermel must fight to protect them from extinction alongside her chosen knight where duty and love are entangled.

I started writing Of Peace and Fire when I was twelve years old. I'll never forget finding a nice comfy spot in my closet (don't ask me why, I always find weird places to write) and wrote the words in a notebook that sixteen years later would become a book I would submit to agents.
This books has seen a TON, and I mean a literal dump truck full of edits. I have written it and rewritten it several times — I mean let's be real, I better be a better author than my twelve-year-old self.
I wrote Of Peace and Fire for a couple reasons.
One, I understand trauma, and when Fermel deals with abandonment issues and isn't sure what her place is in the world, I get her. Through my own personal experiences I can convey her hurt, her challenges and ultimately her triumph.
I also wrote this book because I wanted to show how devastating labels associated with stereotypes can be in our society.
A prime example. You pull into the gas station and just as you are about to pull into the pump, some guy cuts you off coming from seemingly nowhere. What a jerk! But are they a jerk? Or are they in a hurry because his wife is in labor and he doesn't have the gas to get to the hospital. You never know, but when you apply that label of "jerk" to that person as a whole, then you are doing them and yourself a great disservice. That is a very minor example, but one that illustrates what I hope this book will help to enlighten my readers.
Let's all have a little more compassion for each other because you never know the personal battles people are fighting.
